The Comeback Kid

Sitting here on the eve of the official launch of Good Thread Society, I realize this day would not be possible without the events of March 26, 2016.  You see, it was the day I closed the doors to my first beloved boutique Pecola, a hybrid concept focusing on fashion, art and music.

Ironically, it was the same day a friend alerted me to the fact that Pecola had been voted one of the coolest places to shop in Atlanta by Vice. It was then I knew that I had definitely done something right.  Though I would need a long break to recover from the heartache of my loss, the story was far from over.

I spent the last five years healing, but also soaking up as much knowledge and experience when the opportunity presented itself. I found a stylist and interned as her assistant whenever my schedule would allow, and booked a few styling gigs of my own; I hosted a fashion podcast called Naked Lunch for 10 episodes (consistency is a tricky thing with an infant); I produced a "slow" fashion show to showcase local designers.  But the thing that really propelled me forward was connecting with the creative community.  Having real conversations with creators who understood where I had been and where I could go was one of the most valuable tools in my journey, not to mention highly encouraging.

And now here we are.  Good Thread Society is the culmination of everything I've learned--not just about fashion, but about myself and what's important to me.  My mission with this company is to uplift small and women-owned businesses, encourage conscious consumerism through transparency and education, and create my own vision of what sustainable fashion could be in this day and age.  Add to that my unrelenting belief that this is the space in which I've always belonged, and it would seem that this moment was inevitable.  So don’t call it a comeback. I’ve never left.
